Brown's service recognized at President's Recognition Banquet

About 600 guests gathered May 13 for the 50th anniversary version of CSU's annual President's Recognition Banquet, fulfilling the desire to create a "community wide celebration" to recognize the anniversary and pay tribute to retiring President Frank D. Brown for leading CSU since 1988.

One highlight of the evening was the awarding of the prestigious Thomas Y. Whitley Distinguished Alumnus Award to Brown. Recognition also came in the form of special presentations to Brown by state Sen. Seth Harp, R-Midland, and Sharon Jamieson of CSU Teen Achievers, a

program for minority youth that Brown has supported for 20-plus years. CSU Alumni Association President Roger Buterbaugh

also made a special presentation to Brown's wife, Jo Ann Brown.

The creation of a special Alumni Leadership Award honoring Dr. Brown also was announced. A 15-minute film on CSU history highlighted the anniversary aspect of the program, and a separate slideshow focused on Dr. Brown's life.

Other speakers at the banquet included W.B. Turner Sr., retired chairman of the board and CEO of the W.C. Bradley Company; CSU Foundation trustee Jimmy Yancey, retired chairman of the board of Synovus; Troy Woods, president and chief operating officer of TSYS; and businessman Bill Reaves, chairman of the CSU Foundation.
