Kaylene A. Gebert
Executive Vice President and Provost, Middle
Tennessee State University (March 2003–Present)
Serves as the chief academic officer of the university. Provides campus-wide
leadership in achieving the academic goals and objectives of the university.
Supervises the deans of the academic colleges and other senior-level
administrators. Primary duties involve integrated strategic planning; budget
management; academic policy development, implementation and evaluation;
program assessment; and faculty affairs. The executive vice president and
provost is also responsible for administrative oversight of the research
activities, the university library, enrollment management initiatives and
chairs of excellence program. Provides leadership and supervision of 930
full-time faculty, 400 part-time faculty, academic administrators, and
academic staff with a divisional budget of $131 million. Additional external
funding is $37.4 million.
Provost-Vice President for Academic Affairs, University of North
Alabama (September 1999–March 2003)
Served as the chief academic officer and Graduate Dean. Supervised the deans
of the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, and Nursing and
Allied Health; the Dean of Information Technologies and the Director of
Research, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness. Responsible for the
oversight and improvement of all academic programs at the University and as
served as chief executive officer in the absence of the President.
Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, State
System of Higher Education (PA) (Sept 1997 to August 1999)
Served as primary advisor and senior associate of the vice chancellor and
had primary staff responsibility for the development, implementation, and
monitoring of system-wide academic policies, programs, and procedures.
Chaired the system-wide Faculty Professional Development Council. Served as
liaison to campus vice presidents for Student Affairs.
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Tennessee Board of
Regents (August 1992-1997)
Served as liaison with campus academic officers and provided staff support
for system-wide groups, including Admissions and Records, Library, Distance
Education, Continuing Education, Media Consortium, Faculty Sub-Council,
Allied Health, Nursing, and College of Education. Staffed academic program
review, performance funding, and workforce development.

Administrative Leadership Experience
- Served for 24 years in higher education administration, including eight
years as a campus chief academic officer
- Served as liaison to the 14 State System of Higher Education (PA) student
affairs officers, grants officers, honors directors, assessment
coordinators, and deans groups
- Worked with 20 Tennessee Board of Regents' collegiate representatives on a
variety of academic policy and administrative issues, including manpower
assessment, library automation, and telecommunication issues
- Developed a national perspective on educational issues involving
disadvantaged and underprepared students as President of the National
Association for Developmental Education
- Served as public member on an international professional accreditation
council for the American Veterinary Medical Association
Interpersonal Communication Skills - Presented more than 130 papers and presentations at educational
conferences throughout the nation, including twelve keynote speeches
- Provided workshops and seminars on leadership, communication styles,
conflict resolution, and multicultural perspectives
