Dr. Timothy S. Mescon
Dr.
Timothy S. Mescon is dean at the Michael J. Coles College of Business at
Kennesaw State University in metropolitan Atlanta. Mescon also holds the
Tony and Jack Dinos Eminent Scholar Chair. Of KSU’s 21,000 students, the
Coles College enrolls close to 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students and
operates Georgia’s largest executive MBA program. The 2008 edition of
Princeton Review named the Coles College one of the best business
schools in the nation. The executive MBA program, among the largest in the
U.S. was ranked third in the nation in eBusiness and 10th in Teamwork by
Business Week. The Cox Family Enterprise Program was named by Fortune
Small Business among the Top 5 in the nation. All business and accounting
programs in the Coles College are fully accredited by AACSB International.
Under Mescon's guidance, the Coles College, with the support of the Board of
Regents, created Kennesaw State’s first Eminent Scholar Chairs. In spring,
2008, the Board of Regents approved the launch of a Doctorate in Business
Administration (DBA) degree.
Dr. Mescon is the author of more than 200 articles and cases and has
co-authored three books, including Cases in Strategic Management: An
Industry Approach, Showing Up for Work and Other Keys to
Business Success, and his latest, Memos to Management. His fourth
co-authored book, Entrepreneurship: Venture Initiation, Management and
Development, will be published in 2008. Additionally, he has co-authored
an audiotape series entitled Management Excellence for Nightingale-Conant.
He has been a contributing monthly columnist to AirTran Air Line’s GO
magazine.
Mescon was appointed by Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin as a Commissioner on
the Homeless Commission, where he chairs the workforce development task
force. He has been reappointed to a six-year term as a director for the
Metropolitan Atlanta United Way, where he serves on the Nominating/Board
Development Committee and is chair of the finance committee. Mescon is an
advisor to Blairsville-based United Community Banks is a director of
Definition6, and the Ashford Club and on the Advisory Board of the Institute
of Nuclear Power Operations and The Paradies Shops. Mescon is an active
member of the Atlanta Rotary. He also serves as a faculty member at the
Stonier School of Banking. He serves on the Business Week Market Advisory
Board. He is on the Board of the American Jewish Committee, Jewish Family
and Career Services and the Breman Home. He was recently appointed by Gov.
Sonny Perdue to serve on the State of Georgia Workforce Investment Board.
Mescon also serves as a member the Maintenance of Accreditation Committee at
AACSB International, the international accrediting agency for business
schools.
Dr. Mescon received his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia, MBA from
Southern Methodist University and B.A. from Tulane University. He has served
on the faculties of Arizona State University and the University of Miami. He
was the inaugural dean of the Perdue School of Business at Salisbury (Md.)
University. He serves on the Advisory Board of the Kingston University
(U.K.) School of Business and Law. Additionally, Dr. Mescon has served as a
Visiting Lecturer at the University of Aston in Birmingham, England and
Nanjing University in China and as a Visiting Fellow at The Hebrew
University in Jerusalem. March
