Columbus officials have asked CSU to educate voters before a
Nov. 6 election that will decide if the City Council has the authority to exercise redevelopment powers and establish Tax Allocation Districts (TADs) in Columbus. CSU agreed to help by
staging these public forums.
CSU's D. Abbott Turner College of Business will provide the expertise and develop
materials to give voters objective information about
redevelopment powers and Tax Allocation Districts. Information
found on this site is part of the education effort,
which is funded through a Knight Foundation grant.
On Nov. 6, Columbus voters will consider in
a special referendum this ballot question:
“Shall the Act be approved which authorizes the consolidated government of Columbus, Georgia, to exercise redevelopment powers under the “Redevelopment Powers Law,” as it may be amended from time to time?”
If a majority of voters respond “Yes,” provisions of this act will become effective immediately, allowing Columbus to exercise redevelopment powers. Passage of the referendum would allow Columbus, through
the City Council, to create Tax Allocation Districts.
