Dear Members of the University Community:
The Strategic Planning Commission (SPC) for the 2006-2011
planning period developed a strategic plan for the university to
guide our actions for the next five years. The plan includes the
university’s mission statement, seven value statements, and eleven
goals to serve as the framework for our work. After the careful and
thoughtful work of the committee was completed, the administration,
faculty, staff, and students endorsed their work. Hence, the mission
statement, values, and goals have been implemented in 2006 for the
next five years.
We owe our thanks to the members of the committee for their
efforts. Members of the commission were Gina Sheeks (chair), Cathy
Anderson, Julie Ballenger, Linda Hadley, Thomas Harrison, Terry
Irvin, Ray Lakes, Diana Lomarcan, Nancy Marino, Pat McHenry, Neal
Thomson, Laurie Jones, and Scott Webb. Additionally, at least some
of the members continued their work as the university’s quality
enhancement plan was developed for our SACS review in 2006.
The plan makes a powerful statement to members of the university
community and others in our region about our values and how we
function. Most importantly, the plans indicates that we value
excellence, integrity, diversity, respect, engagement, innovation,
and partnership and that our top priority, as expressed in Goal 1,
is to promote academic excellence at every level.
As a member of our community, please join me in implementing this
plan in every aspect of our work.
Sincerely,
Dr. Thomas Harrison
Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs
